Tom Sampson

My name is Tom Sampson and I suffered a massive stroke on 5th December 2007.  After two separate spells of hospitalisation I was released to go home, on leaving the the West Kent neuro-rehab unit in Sevenoaks, my partner Sandie contacted ‘heads up!’ so that I could continue my recovery.

On 22nd May 2008 I was assessed at the ‘heads up!’ clinic in Sevenoaks by Miranda.  She tested me thoroughly and came up with a routine for me, a weekly neuro-physio session to keep me as supple as possible and controlling the stiffness in my limbs and joints.  When I first met Miranda I could walk on a walking stick albeit unsteadily, two years later I walk much more confidently and generally am more in control of my body, Miranda not only worked on my body but on many occassions counselled me when I felt below par.  Two years on from that first assessment I am a more confident individual and I have generally benefited from my time at ‘heads up!’

Miranda got married in September 2009 and by this time I felt I had a strong bond with her and I am indeed indebted to her skill and professionalism for the improvement I have made.  I realise that I still have a long road to travel yet, but when that road finally ends ‘heads up!’ will have played an immeasurable part in my recovery.  I have nothing but admiration for the ‘heads up! staff and their reward will hopefully be my successful conclusion.

As I write this in November 2010, once again I can only applaud the manner in which ‘heads up!’ goes about it’s business and to breathe life and hope into many others who have suffered the same devastating blow that I have.

Welcome to heads up!

How can we help?

Almost everything people do depends on being able to move. Much of the enjoyment and satisfaction we get from our lives comes from activities which require some amount of movement. Our treatment is hands on and designed to help with movement difficulties and for those who have lost confidence in walking.
