Appointments

Please contact Sally Watt, our practice manager on 01306 888171 to make an appointment.

Monday – Friday 8.30 – 5.00

You may have a family member, carer or friend attend appointments with you and they are more than welcome to sit in on the treatment sessions.

If you are self-funding you are not required to have a referral.

If you have Private Medical Insurance (PMI) please check what is required by your PMI.

We accept referrals from patients themselves, family members, GP’s, consultants, case managers, solicitors and any other allied health professional.

What to expect

You will meet with your neurological physiotherapist in one of our consultation rooms.  There will be a couple of forms for you to complete and sign.  All assessments and ongoing treatment are on a one to one basis.

There are two main purposes of our assessment:

Firstly to take a history of your condition, how it has affected you, to find out what you see you as your main difficulties, to understand what troubles you most at the moment.  We will also discuss what you want to achieve.

Secondly we identify with you what you would like to work on in order to move towards the targets we have set together and what treatment will be offered, including the potential frequency and duration of the treatment.

Throughout there will be an opportunity for you to ask questions and discuss any of the recommendations with your physiotherapist.  All our therapy is a partnership between you and your therapist to enable you to reach your maximum potential and achieve the best possible recovery.  In some medical conditions the aim of therapy may be to maintain the best possible physical condition.

After the initial assessment subsequent treatment sessions will be aimed at facilitating you towards the achievement of your individual goals.  Our treatment is very much ‘hands on’.  Assessment is not just a one-off process, but is an integral part of your treatment and important in measuring progress.

Your therapist will take an initial outcome measurement which will enable them to monitor your improvement and ensure that you are on track towards achieving your targets.  Your therapist will design and develop a home exercise programme tailored to your individual requirements to augment your ‘hands on’ treatment.

What to wear

Ideally, please bring with you or wear shorts and a vest/sleeveless top.  However stretchy trousers and a short sleeved top could be worn if you would feel more comfortable.

What to bring

We find it useful if you are able to bring with you the following:

  • any discharge summaries and consultant letters you feel would be useful
  • a list of any current medication you take
  • a brief summary outlining your medical history

Terms & Conditions

We do not invoice you for treatment. Payment is required on the day of your treatment.  Payment may be made by cash, by BACS or cheque only (payable to heads up! Neuro-Rehab Limited).

Please give the maximum amount of notice possible if you are not able to attend an appointment.  If you fail to attend or cancel on the day of your appointment you may incur a cancellation charge equal to the full treatment fee.  We are a small business and cancellations do have an adverse effect.

We cannot always guarantee that you will see the same therapist throughout your treatment; however we always aim to maintain continuity.

Home Visits

Where it is difficult for you to attend the clinic because of your condition we will endeavour to offer a home visit.

For some people it is beneficial to provide treatment using specialist facilities in a clinical environment (attending the clinic can cut down on treatment costs too).  In some cases it may be useful for you to have some sessions at home or treatment so your skills can be transferred and practised in the environments where you use them the most.

Private Medical Insurance (PMI)

If you are covered by a PMI you may be able to claim back all or part of your fees.  You will need to check with your PMI provider whether they require a referral from a consultant or doctor and also whether they will cover the cost of your treatment and that your therapist is recognised by them.

heads up! are non-participating providers to all PMI providers (with the exception of BUPA).  Therefore you will be liable for you own payments to heads up! on the day of your treatment.  heads up! will provide you with a receipt of payment and you are responsible for forwarding it to your PMI provider for reimbursement.

If you are covered by BUPA please inform the practice manager or your therapist.

How can we help?

Almost everything people do depends on being able to move. Much of the enjoyment and satisfaction we get from our lives comes from activities which require some amount of movement. Our treatment is hands on and designed to help with movement difficulties and for those who have lost confidence in walking.
