Parkinson's Disease

A key difficulty with Parkinson's disease is that people find that their movement is slower and stiffer, and their posture is more stooped.

Our aim with patients with Parkinson's disease is to :

  • work to strengthen their bodies
  • help them to stretch upwards and maintain their mobility
  • teach them sequences of movement (eg. rolling over and getting out of bed)
  • help them to be less 'shuffly' in walking by teaching them useful strategies - eg. counting or saying "left, right" when walking, which reminds the legs to take bigger steps

A minimum of 2-4 sessions is needed to:

  • set up and monitor a home exercise programme
  • provide hands on treatment
  • give advice on anything the patient may be having problems with

We recommend a review visit every 3-6 months but the patient can come at any time in between if there are problems that need to be dealt with.

To dicuss how we may be able to help you or one of your family members, please contact Sally Watt, our Practice Manager, on (01306) 888171.

We see patients from all over the South-East (and sometimes further afield) at our practice outside Dorking in Surrey , which is close to the M25, and at the clinics we hold in Kingston, Roehampton and Sevenoaks.
