Meet the Team

All our specialist neurological physiotherapists are members of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (CSP) and are all registered with the Health Professional Council (HPC). They are all trained to an advanced level in the Bobath Concept.

Anna Hamer MCSP SRP

Anna qualified in 1982 from St Thomas’ Hospital, London.

She started to specialise in neurology in 1985 at the Royal Free Hospital, London, a regional neurological centre, and has had many years specialist experience within the NHS.

Anna set up the first heads up! clinic in 1997 and it has over the years grown to become one of the UK leaders in neurological physiotherapy. Anna ensures that all heads up! staff are trained to advanced levels and meet the highest standards in the field of neurological physiotherapy.

Anna is involved with clinical teaching and is an expert witness in her field. She is one of 16 Bobath Tutors in the UK and a member of the British Bobath Tutors Association, the International Bobath Instructors Tutors Association (IBITA) and the British Association of Bobath Trained Therapists (BABTT – paediatric).

Anna is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (MCSP) and also of the Organisation of Chartered Physiotherapists in Private Practice (OCPPP), the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Neurology (ACPIN) and a founder member of the Expert Witness Institute (EWI).

Emma Walters MCSP SRP

Emma graduated from the University of Brighton with a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy in 2000.

She then worked at Maidstone Hospital in Kent, where she completed her junior rotations and began to specialise in neurology.In 2003, she moved to High Wycombe, where she gained varied neurological experience in both acute and rehabilitation settings, and on the intensive therapy unit.

She has extensive experience of treating a wide range of neurological conditions.

In October 2005, as the lead physiotherapist, she helped to establish and develop the Stroke Unit at Wycombe Hospital, which involved educating staff members on how to handle and care for stroke patients. She also set up weekly multi-disciplinary meetings to ensure that patients were given the best possible treatment.

Emma has worked at heads up! since November 2006 and during her time here has found that working in the private sector has allowed her to develop her clinical skills both in the clinic and community environments.

She is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (MCSP) and the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Neurology (ACPIN) and the Chartered Physiotherapists in Vestibular Rehabilitation (ACPIVR). Her Health Professional Council number is PH57936.

Vicky Graveling MCSP SRP

Vicky graduated from the University of Birmingham with a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy in 2002.

She stayed in Birmingham to complete her Junior Rotations and the Heart of England NHS Trust, and developed an interest in rehabilitation. In 2005, she moved to Mayday Hospital, and took a senior post. Here, she gained further specialist experience working with people with varied neurological conditions.

In addition to working with people in a hospital or clinic environment, Vicky has experience working with a community rehabilitation team, treating people in their own home. This included supporting people on discharge home from hospital, and working with individuals, their families and carers to achieve functional goals.

She is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists and of the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Neurology (ACPIN). She joined the heads up! team in October 2008.

Michelle Liddicut MCSP SRP

Michelle graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Hons) from Melbourne University in November 1999. She then worked for three and a half years in Melbourne, including a senior role at an acute trauma hospital working with neurological patients.

After arriving in the UK in 2003, Michelle worked as a locum in various neurological settings including the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.

Michelle has worked at heads up! since January 2005.

She is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (MCSP).

Miranda Houldey MCSP SRP

Miranda graduated from the University of East Anglia with a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy in 1999. She then worked at St. Richard’s Hospital in Chichester to complete her junior rotations before taking a senior post, specialising in neurology.

Her roles included working on the newly established Stroke Assessment Unit, the Stroke Rehabilitation Unit and Donald Wilson House (the Young Person’s Disabled Unit). She gained experience working with a variety of neurological conditions.

She moved to Cambridgeshire in 2004, where she worked as a senior physiotherapist in the community and in out-patient settings. She worked with an Integrated Rehabilitation Team, supporting people with long-term neurological conditions through individual treatment sessions, hydrotherapy and group exercise classes. She also had a role in facilitating hospital discharge and the return home for people with newly diagnosed neurological conditions.

She has spent some time overseas as a volunteer physiotherapist, including working in Bangladesh in their nationally acclaimed Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed in Dhaka.

She is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists and of the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Neurology (ACPIN). She joined heads up! in March 2007.

Sally Watt

Sally, our Practice Manager, will probably be the voice on the other end of the phone when you call.

She previously worked at a local GP’s practice for 11 years during her time there she undertook a diploma in Practice Management at Carshalton College, gaining a distinction.

Sally joined heads up! in March 2003.

How can we help?

Almost everything people do depends on being able to move. Much of the enjoyment and satisfaction we get from our lives comes from activities which require some amount of movement. Our treatment is hands on and designed to help with movement difficulties and for those who have lost confidence in walking.
