Job Description for Permanent Out-patient Neurological Physiotherapist
Accountable to: Anna Hamer MCSP SRP
Administratively Responsible to: Sally Watt, Practice Manager
Hours: 36 hours per week - 5 days/week
Job Summary
The physiotherapist will:
- be responsible for the assessment and treatment of patients with neurological conditions
- provide an efficient and effective physiotherapy service to all heads up! patients
- be part of a small team of neuro-physiotherapists and assist the other staff in the development of the service
- be involved, where necessary, in the promotion and marketing of the practice.
This will take place at the practice, satellites and in the community, or other health care settings as appropriate. This may include working for periods of the day on your own.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Clinical & Professional)
- To be responsible for your own workload in conjunction with the practice manager and the clinical manager ensuring patients receive a full assessment and planned programme of care, with regular review and adaptation as required
- To undertake
the appropriate active physiotherapeutic management of a
variety of rehabilitation and maintenance patients
with neurological conditions (both fast- and slow-stream)
and to provide treatment of the highest possible standard
- To be aware of and adhere to practice procedures and policies
- To be an active member of the team
- To maintain a high level of expertise and keep up to date with developments in clinical practice
- To attend and participate in practice meetings and in-service training
- To maintain high standards of clinical documentation and accurate recording of clinical data conforming to heads up! and Chartered Society of Physiotherapy protocols
- To implement appropriate outcome measurement and to set appropriate short and long term goals for treatment
- To demonstrate evidence-based practice using current literature and appropriate evaluation of practice
- To adopt safe codes of practice at all times, to adhere to the rules of professional conduct and to be aware of emergency procedures
- To respect patient confidentiality at all times
- To ensure that patients have regular appointments booked in advance (where appropriate), to take payments from patients, and to ensure that treatments and payments are recorded on the computerised diary system
- To be involved in the promotion and marketing of the practice, including speaking to health professionals and potential patients.

This job description includes the principal duties of the post. However, the post holder is required to adopt a flexible approach in order to meet the changing needs of the practice, as and when they are identified.
