What goes on in an asessment?
Once you have decided that you want to be treated by heads up!,
you will be
given a 75-minute assessment which may involve:
finding out more about your neurological problem, what
has happened in
the past and how it is affecting you now
talking over the movement goals that you have
giving a professional opinion as to whether
these goals are realistic. We encourage people to have ambitious
goals without being totally
unrealistic
developing agreed-upon goals and a treatment plan
taking measures/photographs
so that future progress can be easily
measured. This could involve assessing how far you can
reach when you are
standing, whether you can stand up from a plinth without
using your
hands or how long it takes to walk a certain distance
discussing
how many sessions the initial treatment programme should
last. This can depend on the severity of your problems,
the extent of your
goals, your budget and how regularly you want to travel to
one of our clinics
discussing your home exercise programme and giving
you some exercises.
Some patients engage in other activities such as hydrotherapy,
gym
work, Pilates or yoga and we can discuss whether any of these
would be
appropriate for you.
There may also be time for some treatment, so that you can
get your first taste
of the heads up! 'hands-on' approach.
Some patients need a written report for their consultant
and GP and we are
happy to provide one after the assessment when it is requested.
